During the last decade of Portuguese rule, Angola had shown a noticeable revival in the economic and social areas. It was largely stimulated from Portugal and it is rumoured that along with the military effort, strong efforts were also made to improve the socio-economic conditions in order to keep Angola. It is often pointed out that the terrorist activities could not be controlled by military means alone. This may be so. But it will be wrong to see this widely branching process singularly in this regard. There were undoubtedly many officials, from the Governor-General right down to the lowest information officer, a genuinely honest effort to create a better life for the inhabitants of the country.
