About The War In Angola

First Clashes

Operation SavannahThe interim coalition government at least acted as one in one area. That was related to efforts to belay the labour unrest in Angola. A first call to unions and labourers to stop all strikes in order for measures to be taken that would be in their interest did not have much success. Thereupon a decree, accepted by all three parties, followed which authorised the government to place all labourers under military control. That temporarily stopped the strikes of the port-workers of Luanda and Lobito. However, except for a few exceptions, strikes in ports and on the railways continued and added to the disruption.
