South Africa’s African policy in the sixties

In 1961 the British Commonwealth countries in Africa also contributed to South Africa’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth. The wave of Black Nationalism threatened to isolate the white south into becoming an island. To avoid the increasing isolation, South Africa had already made attempts to improve its relationships early in the nineteen-sixties.
