| 72 Motorised Brigade - (4 members)
72 Motorised Brigade [72 Gemotoriseerde Brigade] was established at Kensingbton, Johannesburg, on August 1, 1974 as part of 7 South African Division, a motorised formation. It was mobilised for operational duty in January 1976 and mostly used to protect the Ruacana/Calueque water scheme in the Cunene River. It was only withdrawn on 27 March 1976, which made the formation the last South African troops to be Angola at that time. By 1985, 72 Motorised Brigade had been transferred to the command of 8th South African Armoured Division. It took part in numerous training exercises at the SA Army Battle School at Lohatlha in the Northern Cape from 1978. The brigade's major exercise was Kwiksilwer in 1987, involving 72 Brigade and the divisional headquarters. Link me to this Unit |
