95 Tactical Airfield Unit (95 TAU) was established at Ondangwa on 2 February.1972 under the Code Name "Playboy" and renamed to 95 TAU on 1 March 1976. On 1 January 1982 it was upgraded to an air force base and became AFB Ondangwa. The men of the Tactical Airfield Units (TAU) were also the sappers of the SAAF when an airfield needed to be established - by extending and upgrading an existing runway, or hacking a new one out of virgin bush.
