Bethlehem Commando [Afr: Bethlehem Kommando] was established in Bethlehem under the Group 25 Headquarters of the Orange Free State Command. Its history can be traced back to the Anglo Boer War and the battle of Rietfontein, which took place on 24 October 1899. Under the SADF the unit was mostly used for border control, area force protection and stock theft control. It was disbanded with the remainder of the commandos after President Mbeki announced the disbanding of the commando system on 14th February 2003.
