The Bothaville Commando was established at Bothaville in the Orange Free State during the Anglo Boer War as an active Boer commando operating against the British forces. During the SADF-period it was organised under the Group 24 Headquarters as part of the Free State Command and was responsible for local area protection. It was disbanded with the remainder of the commandos after President Mbeki announced the disbanding of the commando system on 14th February 2003.
