The Bronkhorstspruit Commando [Afr: Bronkhorstspruit-Kommando] was originally established at Bronkhorstspruit in the Northern Transvaal (now part of Gauteng Province) some time in the early 1960s (the exact date of its establishment is unknown). During the SADF-period it formed part of the Northern Transvaal Command, under the Group 15 Headquarters at Voortrekkerhoogte, where it was responsible for local area protection, search and cordones as well as stock theft control assistance to the rural police. At times the commando fell directly under the command of the Northern Transvaal Command. It was disbanded with the remainder of the commandos after President Mbeki announced the disbanding of the commando system on 14 February 2003.
