| Western Province Command - (6 members)
Western Province Command [Afr: Kommandement Westelike Provinsie] was established as the Regional Command of the Territorial Force of the South African Army, in Cape Town, in 1959. The ceremonial office of the General Officer Commanding Western Province Command, and thus the regional headquarters of the South African Army in the Western Cape, was located in the Castle of Good Hope. The Command had developed from the original Military District No 1 [Afr: Militêredistrik Nr. 1], which had been established back in 1913, renamed to Cape Command [Afr: Kommandement Kaap] in 1934, and then to Cape Fortress Command [Afr: Kommandement Kaapsevesting] in 1942, back to Cape Command in 1946, before finally being established as the Western Province Command in 1959. It was disbanded in 1999, after the South African Defence Review of 1998. Link me to this Unit |
