Sector 70 Signal Unit [Afr: Sektor 70 Seineenheid] was originally formed in the early 1970s after the SA Army had established No.1 Military Area in 1969, with its HQ at Rundu, and took over SWA border area security from the SAP in 1974. In 1979 the Operational Area was divided into seven Sectors. Sectors 10, 20 and 70 under SADF command and 30, 40, 50 & 60 under SWAFT command. Sector 70 was the sector in the Operational Area covering the north-eastern part of SWA (Caprivi) and the border with Angola and Zambia, with its headquarters at Katima Mulilo. Sector 70 Signal Unit had its HQ at Katima Mulilo until it was disbanded by President FW de Klerk in around 1992. (* Sector 70 Signal Unit had no flash of its own it is believed they have most likely worn the Sector 70 HQ flash)
