81 Field Ambulance Unit [Afr: 81 Veldambulans-eenheid] was established in 1975 and formed part of 81 Armoured Brigade from 1975 until 1978. 81 Field Ambulance Unit was eventually combined with 9 Field Ambulance Unit, 18 Field Ambulance Unit and the Medical Conveyance Unit (Despatch) to form 6 Medical Battalion Group on the Battalion Group's establishment on 1 May 1982.
