RE: 2 Reconnaissance Regiment

I am sorry to have to announce the passing today of Commandant (Lieutenant Colonel) Sybie van der Spuy, who was commanding officer of 2 Reconnaissance Regiment and a long-serving Special Forces operator in the South African Army. Today the van der Spuy family is in our thoughts and prayers. RIP Cmdt!...

RE: 2 Reconnaissance Regiment

All my sympathy and condolences to the family of Commandant Sybie van der Spuy. Another great man that risk his life in Angola to keep SWA free from terrorists. Did not know the Commandant personally, but read much about him in a Book named 'THE SILENT WAR' by Peter Stiff, therefor as a Troop that served on the Border SWA/ANGOLA in 1975/76 to 1979 I have all the respect for the Reconnaissance(Recces) and the Bravo Group (under Col Breytenbach), who later became 32 Battalion. I salute you Commandant, may you rest in peace. ...
