Sector 40 Headquarters - (0 members)

Originally known as the Southern SWA Group [Afr: Suidelike SWA Groep] under Cmdt P.J. Malan of the Gobabis Rifle Commando, the Headquarters was formally established as Commando Group 29 Headquarters [Afr: Hoofkwartier, Kommandogroep No. 29] at Windhoek in 1974, under the command of Chief Cmdt R.A. Roots, as part of the then SWA Command. The Headquarters was converted into a Sector Headquarters called Sector 40 [Afr: Hoofkwartier, Sektor 40], at Luiperdsvallei, south of Windhoek, around 1976, and in August 1980 it became one of the four sectors which specifically fell directly under the new South-West African Territory Force (SWATF) control. The units under its command were collectively known as Group 29 before 1980. The unit was responsible for the command and administration of 911 Battalion as well as the following Area Force Units located within its Area of Responsibility: Rehoboth, Swakopmund, Alte Feste, Khomas Hochland, Okahandja, Omaruru and Khomasdal. Sector 40 was deactivated when the SWATF was demobilised on 1 June 1989.
