About The War In Angola
The RSA intervenes in Northern-Angola

The Republic of South Africa decided early on October 1975 to also appoint a liaison officer to Holden Roberto at Ambriz, like the CIA had done at Silva Porto (Bié) with Savimbi.

The choice for this post lay with a captain who had earlier worked as liaison officer for a few months at Serpa Pinto (Menongue), and could speak Portuguese. On 7 October 1975, he was informed by Brig. J.J. Geldenhuys that he had go to Ambriz so serve as liaison between Holden Roberto and the commanding officer of 1 Military Area. One of his tasks was to ensure that the runway at Ambriz were still in a good enough condition for South African Air Force planes to land. He also had to keep his identity secret.
