FAPLA driven back on the Benguela route

For that reason a combat team was sent out on the Benguela road on Thursday 30 October. During this time radio messages were intercepted in which Benguela not only acknowledged the loss of towns in the Huila and Moçamedes districts, but also announced that there had they had been advancing on the Benguela route as well as other routes in the direction of Nova Lisboa. Hence, on 26 October the situation changed. UNITA-forces were driven back to Babaera and the enemy threatened to destroy the power station on the Catumbala River between Mariano Machado and Babaera, thereby interrupting Nova Lisboa’s power supply.
