Ratel SS

The Ratel SS was the first Ratel developed from the model provided by the Springfield Bussing 6X6 Buffel, which had satisfied most of the requirements for a new Infantry Combat Vehicle for the SA Army in 1972. The SS is an acronym for Sagte Staal - Mild Steel. This vehicle became the test bed for the production model and many more modifications were made and testing done before production could begin. The first prototype of the Ratel was completed in July 1974
