Alouette II

A light helicopter originally manufactured by Sud Aviation and later Aèrospatiale of France. The Alouette II was the first helicopter to use a gas turbine instead of a conventional heavier piston engine. The Alouette II first flew in 1955 and gained its domestic certificate of airworthiness on the 2nd May 1957. Alouette IIs were used by the SAAF for training.
