The start of the year found Charlie Company [of 32 Battalion] deployed between beacons 26 and 29, with all patrols confined to Owamboland. Explicit orders had been issued that no one was to cross into Angola without prior authorisation. It didn't take long for SWAPO to figure out that hot pursuit operations had become a thing of the past, and they adapted their tactics accordingly, attacking temporary bases situated closest to the border, then immediately withdrawing into Angola.
