Casspir Armoured Personnel Carrier

The Casspir is a mine-protected armoured personnel carrier originally developed for the police to use in counter-insurgency operations. Later is was also adopted by some elements of the SA Army, but mostly by the SWA Territory Force. Weighing 10.8 tons, and capable of a road speed of up to 98 km/h because it is powered by a 124 kW turbo-charged diesel engine, it has a range of 770 km. It is normally armed with a single 7.62mm machine-gun mounted in front of the co-driver and a twin mount at the commander's station which can also be fitted with one 12.7mm machine-gun and one 7.62mm machine-gun or two 7.62mm machine-guns. Later models can mount a 20mm cannon in this position. The armour is proof against small-arms fire, and the V-shaped hull protects against mine-blasts. The 12 inward-facing seats in the hull provide full harnesses for twelve men. Doors are set in the rear allowing easy access to the ropp compartment. It is highly regarded for its outstanding cross-country
