About The War In Angola
South African aid to Portugal

The increasing activities of SWAPO in the north of South West Africa had made military defensive measures of actual importance. From their respective headquarters the South African Police and the South African Defence Force put action programmes into place to overcome a possible escalation of the threat. In the following years attention was paid to the improvement of airfields and communication lines and the establishment of special reaction units of the South African Police on the borders of the neighbouring countries of South West Africa. The deployment of sections at the Zambezi River, on the Empaleli Island, at Katima Mulilo, Congola and Mukwe, made the infiltration of terrorists through the Caprivi very difficult.
