The local hospital at Silva Porto was activated as a field-hospital on 26 December 1975 during Operation Savannah and was non-officially known as 2 Forward Surgical Unit (2 FSU) [Afr: 2 Voor-Chirurgiese Eenheid]. It was closed down during the second phase of withdrawal in 1976, when Silva Porto and Sá de Bandeira were evacuated and all casualties taken to Oshakati, Serpa Pinto, Rundu and Grootfontein.
