Sector 20 Signal Unit [Afr: Sektor 20 Seineenheid] was originally formed in the early 1970s after the SA Army had established No.1 Military Area in 1969 with its HQ at Rundu and took over SWA border area security from the SAP in 1974. In 1979 the Operational Area was divided into seven Sectors. Sectors 10, 20 and 70 under SADF command and 30, 40, 50 & 60 under SWAFT command. Sector 20 was the sector in the Operational area covering the north-central part of SWA and the border with Angola, with its headquarters at Rundu. A number of SADF cross-border operations were launched into Angola and contrilled from this sector. Sector 20 Signal Unit had its HQ at Rundu until it was disbanded by President FW de Klerk on 14 Jul 1992. (* Sector 20 Signal Unit had no flash of its own it is believed they have most likely worn the Sector 20 HQ flash)
