About The War In Angola

The Filengemo infiltration Jan – Jun 1979

Operation Carrot 1979 Purpose of infiltration: Unlike the clandestine infiltrations of 1976, it was planned to execute offensive operations in 1979. While the covert infiltrations as well as the failed clandestine infiltrations of 1977 were focused on the sabotage of roads and railway lines in the far south, the group was now tasked not only to sabotage, but also to “kill any black or white Boer (farmer).” It is apparent that this reference is used of all whites (of RSA) and their supporters in the government, rather than merely about farmers in the farming industry. This infiltration would be the precursor to a series of incursions over the rest of the year, which created the impression that it was planned to maintain a continued presence in the south.
