About The War In Angola

Operation Sceptic: The operation

Operation ScepticOn 29 May 1980, after all the commanders of the battle group arrived and were appointed, the final planning was finalised and the necessary orders issued.

Initially Sceptic was planned to be executed during the period of the full moon between 27 and 28 June 1980. However, due to the rapid build-up of SWAPO forces as well as the political situation which dictated as such, the operation was moved 20 days earlier to 10 June 1980. 61 Mechanised Battalion Group would be renamed to Battle Group 61 for the duration of the operation, and it was strengthened by additional attachments to reach full strength in May 1980.
