There's further reading on this from a blog called "Five Two Charlie - A Ratel gunners tale". I think the call sign of this Ratel was Five Two. Our Staff Sergeant (Rocky) Francis got a Honoris Crux for saving the Driver while under enemy fire - Respect!! There's another photograph of it from behind, very blurry and as light was fading.

From Jacques Myburgh:

Ons was
Net so.
Nuts (sy bynaam, nie sy state of mind nie – athough it was debatable sometimes) was my crew commander. Sy woorde was : “O jissis fok, 52 brand”.
This was the proverbial “it”...

Some more feedback on Facebook:
From Doug Beveridge: could be RPG's . In the 9 days war they had new RPG's RPG 9 or somthing . much more powefull than RPG 7
From Richard Wiles: But they make a small hole. Thats a big flippen hole! Could it be a recoiless round perhaps?
From Doug Beveridge: RPG 22
From Doug Beveridge: could be a B-10
From Richard Wiles: Yeah. B10 would be a good call.
